Laniado Hospital — the Sanz Medical Center — stands on Divrei Haim Street in Kiryat Sanz, the Haredi neighbourhood in the north of Netanya, and it is run according to halacha. Families come to it from all over Israel and from abroad, often at short notice and for longer than a holiday. Hotels are not built for that; an apartment with a kitchen, a washing machine and a host on WhatsApp is. This guide is for those families — and it is honest about where our apartments are.
Who needs an apartment near Laniado Hospital?
Mostly families staying weeks rather than nights: relatives of patients in treatment or rehabilitation, new parents and grandparents around a birth in Laniado's maternity ward, relatives arriving from abroad who need kosher food and a Shabbat that works without logistics, and outpatients with a series of appointments who would rather stay in Netanya than travel in each day.
- Families of patients in treatment or rehabilitation, who need a base for a week or a month rather than a night.
- New parents and their families: Laniado's maternity ward is well known, and grandparents often come for the birth and the week after.
- Relatives arriving from abroad who want to be close to the patient, eat kosher, and keep Shabbat without logistics.
- Outpatients with a series of appointments who would rather stay in Netanya than travel in each day.
What should you look for in an apartment near the hospital?
Five things, in this order: a real walking route for Shabbat, quiet bedrooms, kosher food nearby, parking, and a host flexible enough to move your dates when a discharge date moves. Add a washing machine, fast Wi-Fi for working between visits and a full kitchen, and the difference between a hospital week and a hotel week becomes very large.
| Need | Why it matters | What to ask |
|---|---|---|
| Walking distance on Shabbat | Visiting a patient on Shabbat means walking — and Netanya has hills and stairs | The real walking route and time, not the map distance |
| Quiet | After a hospital day you need real sleep | Bedrooms away from the street, air conditioning in the rooms |
| Kosher food nearby | Kiryat Sanz has mehadrin shops; the centre has the widest choice | Which shops are open late and on Friday |
| Parking | Hospital parking is limited; free parking at the apartment saves money and time | Is there free parking on the premises? |
| Flexibility | Discharge dates move | Can the stay be extended or shortened? |
For long stays also ask about a weekly or monthly rate and a mid-stay change of linen. Both are normal requests and both are easier to arrange with a host than with a reception desk.
How close are your apartments to Laniado Hospital?
None of our four apartments is inside Kiryat Sanz, and we will not pretend otherwise. Three of them — the Ussishkin Rooftop, the Sunset Jacuzzi Residence and Seafront Panorama — are in central Netanya around Kikar HaAtzmaut: a short taxi or bus ride from the hospital on weekdays, and a proper walk on Shabbat. The Park & Sea Tower is in the south of the city and suits families who come by car for daytime visits.
Rather than print walking minutes we have not measured for your ward, we ask you to send us the ward or department and your dates. We reply with the honest walking time from each apartment, the taxi time, and whether a weekly rate applies. If another location would genuinely serve you better, we will say so.
Message us with the ward and your dates. We answer with real walking and taxi times from each apartment — and if another location would genuinely serve you better, we will say so.
What is Shabbat like around Laniado Hospital?
Complete. Laniado is run according to halacha and Shabbat is part of its routine, so ask the ward about visiting arrangements on Saturday, which differ from weekdays. Kiryat Sanz around it is fully observant: shops close on Friday afternoon, the streets go quiet, buses stop, and the neighbourhood's separate-bathing beach is not in use. Taxis keep running.
If you will walk to the hospital on Shabbat, walk the route once on a weekday first. Netanya's promenade is flat, but the streets inland climb and descend, and a twenty-minute walk in August with a bag feels like more. Netanya has a city eruv, but check its status each week before relying on it to carry. We can suggest the shadiest route from the apartment you choose.
What should you organise for a hospital stay in Netanya?
Before you arrive: save the ward's direct number and the hospital's main line, install the Home Front Command app, and find out where the nearest mehadrin grocery is. On arrival: locate the mamad in the apartment, set up a taxi app, and ask us about a weekly rate if the stay may run long. The rest is easier than it looks.
- Save the ward's direct phone number and the hospital's main line in your phone before you arrive.
- Taxis are easy to order by app and run on Shabbat; public buses and trains do not run on Shabbat.
- Pharmacies: chain pharmacies in the centre keep long weekday hours; for Shabbat or night cover ask the ward which pharmacy is on duty.
- Kosher food: Kiryat Sanz for mehadrin groceries and takeaway near the hospital; Kikar HaAtzmaut for the widest choice of restaurants. Shop before Friday afternoon.
- Each of our apartments has a mamad safe room inside the apartment; install the Home Front Command app on arrival.
- Long stays: every apartment has a washing machine, and a mid-stay change of linen can be arranged on request.
Questions families ask
Where is Laniado Hospital in Netanya?
Laniado Hospital, the Sanz Medical Center, is on Divrei Haim Street in Kiryat Sanz, the Haredi neighbourhood in the north of Netanya. It is a short drive from the city centre around Kikar HaAtzmaut and a longer walk. Taxis run on Shabbat; public buses do not.
Are your apartments within walking distance of Laniado on Shabbat?
None of our apartments is inside Kiryat Sanz. Our three central apartments near Kikar HaAtzmaut are a real walk from the hospital, and the Park & Sea Tower in the south is further. Rather than guess, send us the ward and your dates and we will give you the honest walking time from each apartment before you book.
Is there a hotel near Laniado Hospital, or is an apartment better?
For a stay of more than a night or two, an apartment usually works better than a hotel: a kitchen for kosher food, a washing machine, separate bedrooms so relatives can take turns at the hospital, and a host who can extend your dates by message when a discharge date moves. Kiryat Sanz itself is residential, so most accommodation for visiting families sits in the surrounding city.
Is there kosher food near Laniado Hospital?
Yes. Kiryat Sanz, the neighbourhood around the hospital, has mehadrin grocery shops, bakeries and takeaway; the city centre around Kikar HaAtzmaut has the widest choice of kosher restaurants at Rabbanut, Mehadrin and Badatz levels. Everything closes from Friday afternoon until after Shabbat, so shop ahead.
Can we book an apartment near Laniado by the week or the month?
Yes. All our apartments accept longer stays, and the Ussishkin Rooftop in particular is set up for them with lockbox self check-in and a washing machine. Ask for a weekly or monthly rate when you send your dates, and tell us if the dates may move.
Can our stay be extended if the hospital stay runs longer than planned?
Whenever the calendar allows, yes — you deal directly with the host, not a reception desk, so an extension is a WhatsApp message rather than a new booking. Tell us at the start that dates may move and we will flag the nights after your stay.
